Women's Basketball Cruises Past Catawba for Third Straight Victory

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team cruised to its third straight victory with a 66-50 defeat of Catawba on Wednesday evening. Over the final 27 minutes, LR outscored Catawba 49-33 and held Catawba to 28.1 percent shooting from the field.

STATS OF THE GAME:
• The LR defense absolutely put the clamps on Catawba's offense, limiting the hosts to just 3-of-18 from long range. On the other end, LR buried nine 3-pointers and shot 41.8 percent from the floor. 
• Catawba scored the game's first eight points but LR battled back. A late run in the second quarter gave the Bears a 10 point lead going into the break. 
Kendall Toineeta led the Bears with 16 points and added five assists and three rebounds. The senior PG was 7-of-16 from the floor and converted a couple of 3-pointers. Toineeta was one of four players to reach double figures in scoring for the Bears. 
Ashley Rodriguez gave LR a spark off the bench, scoring 13 points and going 3-of-7 from deep. 
• Talia Barnes was the best player on the floor for Catawba, going for a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• The 50 points scored by Catawba was their third-lowest scoring output of the season. 
• The Bears shot a season-low two free throws on the night. LR entered the game ranked tenth in the nation in free throw percentage at 77.7 percent from the charity stripe. 
• LR has swept the season series from Catawba and now sits in a three-way tie for fifth place in the league standings. 
 
UP NEXT:
The Bears wrap up the regular season on Saturday afternoon as they host Lincoln Memorial at 2 p.m. Following the game, the Bears will honor their Senior Class.
