Baseball Drops Two Against Anderson

HICKORY, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team lost both of the double header games on Saturday afternoon against the Anderson Trojans, 10-7 and 2-1.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Anderson 10, Lenoir-Rhyne 7; Anderson 2, Lenoir-Rhyne 1

STATS OF GAME ONE:
Paul Hall, the Bears' Friday night starter, worked 4.0 innings, giving up four earned runs, six free passes, and fanned six batters but did not receive the decision. Nolan Flachofsky took the loss as he worked two complete innings, giving up four runs and four walks in addition to two strikeouts.
• Lenoir-Rhyne was off to a 7-1 lead after a grand slam from E.J. Ranel in the first inning. The Trojans proceeded to put a 3-spot up in the fifth, then one each in the seventh, eighth and ninth. 
• Anderson started Will Gee on the mound, and the Blackville, S.C. native took his second win of the season working 7.0 innings, giving up seven earned runs and nine hits and fanning nine Bears batters in the process. Christian Carpenter worked the final inning and one third to earn his fourth save of the season. Carpenter didn't give up a hit or walk while striking out two in the relief appearance.
• Chandler Castleberry led the Trojans at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four runs batted in. Six other hitters for Anderson recorded at least one base knock.

STATS OF GAME TWO:
• The Bears could ask nothing more from its game two starter, Alex Shirazi. The Charlotte, N.C. native worked a complete game and only gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk. He also struck out six Anderson batters in the process.
• The Trojans started Austin Todd, who now is an even 1-1 on the season, who put in 6.0 innings of work on the mound and gave up just one run on five hits, two walks and four strikeouts. Carpenter worked the final inning to collect another save in the same day.
• Lenoir-Rhyne's only run of the game came off an RBI double down the right field line from Grant Fuller to score Will Jones. Both Fuller and Jones are the only LR players to record multiple base hits in the game.
• Anderson's four and five hole hitters knocked in both of their runs to take the win, in the form of Brandon Odachowski and Jackson Strange.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Carpenter, the Trojans' closer, picked up two saves in a perfect 3.0 innings of work.
•    Ranel's grand slam is the team's third of the season.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bears will play the series finale against the Anderson Trojans on Monday afternoon, March 4 at 5 p.m.
