Fourth Quarter Surge Sends Men's Lacrosse Past Newberry

Newberry, S.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team used a 12-2 scoring run to close the game, stealing the second South Atlantic Conference win of the 2019 season on Saturday afternoon against the Newberry Wolves. The Bears erupted for 10 fourth quarter goals, all of which came in succession, to erase a 14-11 deficit.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•  The Bears were up 9-5 at halftime, but Newberry came storming back in the third quarter, outscoring the road team 9-2 in the period. LR came back with a vengeance, outscoring the Wolves 10-2 in the fourth period.
•  The Bears 10 fourth quarter goals came in an 8:52 span to open the period. Buduo netted a hat trick in that time frame and Quinn Kuhn scored a pair. 
•   Eric Dickinson lead the trio of scorers for the Bears with six goals and Buduo and Kuhn each scored four times. Seven others managed to score for the Bears.
•  Noah Johnson earned the start in goal and worked the full 60 minutes, picking up nine saves in the winning effort.
•   Erick Szurley racked up 13 saves in the loss while playing the full game, giving up 21 goals.
•   Six members of the home team put in goals, led by the duo of Zachary Sunderland and Stone Boone with four each, Jeremy Ross got a hat trick and three more put a goal in the scoring column.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Dickinson ranks fifth in the SAC in goals scored with 27, fifth in points with 38 and second in the conference in shots taken with 99.
•    This win marks the first road victory of the year.
•    LR dominated in shots, outshooting the hosts 64-39. The Bears won 25-of-40 faceoffs but were held 0-for-10 on the man advantage. 
 
UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne travels to West Virginia to take on Mercyhurst on Saturday, March 30 with face off set for 1:30 p.m.
