Gaffney and Bissell Each Dish Out Four Assists as Bears Overpower Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team scored the first seven goals of the game and cruised to a 19-7 victory at Newberry on Saturday afternoon. Rachel Elmore scored four times and Alyssa Sack added a hat trick for LR who got four assists from Cathleen Gaffney and Anna Bissell

STATS OF THE GAME:
Rachel Elmore started the scoring onslaught with a goal 40 seconds in and the Bears never looked back. Elmore and Sack each scored twice in the first half and Gaffney assisted on three of LR's first six goals. 
Carley Camp scored the first two goals of her career, each coming in the second half. Mallory Williams also netted her first career score along with Georgia Kennedy
Gia Colombo finished with a team-high five ground balls. Colombo and Cassie Lafler each recorded three caused turnovers for the Bears and Elmore had seven draw controls.
• For the game, LR held a 37-16 advantage in shots and 32 of those attempts were on goal. The Bears held a 25-14 lead in ground balls and forced Newberry into 22 turnovers. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• The Bears' 19 goals represents a season-high, topping their previous high of 18 against Tusculum last Saturday. The 37 shots and 25 ground balls also each represent season-highs for LR.
• Gaffney leads the South Atlantic Conference with 22 assists on the season. Her total is four more than anyone else in the league. 
• Each of the Bears two goalies played 30 minutes with Teanna Sieben recording the win with her three saves. 
 
UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne will return home for the first time since March 2 when they host Wingate on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
