Baseball Drops Series Finale Against Wingate

HICKORY, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team used two blasts out of Bears Field in the third and seventh innings, and threatened with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, but it was not enough as the Wingate Bulldogs completed the series sweep with the 11-4 win on Monday night in a game that was originally postponed due to weather.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•   This game was won when Wingate put up a five spot in the fifth inning after both teams opened the game with home runs in the third inning of play.
•   Lenoir-Rhyne had eight total hits in the game and Clayton Jeffries and Alex Reynolds accounted for half of them with two hits each. It was Matthew Freeman with the three-run home run and E.J. Ranel with the solo shot.
•  Jake Conroy took the loss in what should be his final start at Bears Field on Monday. He worked four complete innings, scattered seven hits and four runs while walking two and striking two batters out. Kevin LaRosa was the second arm out of the bullpen, giving Lenoir-Rhyne a chance to stay in the game with 2.1 innings of work before the Bulldogs broke the game open with three insurance runs in the eighth and ninth frames.
•   The Bulldog bats were on fire as spots one through five in the lineup each got a hit and Jed Bryant did most of the damage with a three run shot. Justin Guy was 4-for-6 in the leadoff spot and added an RBI as well.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Ranel is on a seven-game hit streak, as he hit at the top of the order for the second-straight game.
 
UP NEXT:
LR stays at home to prepare for a midweek game against the Limestone Saints on Wednesday night at 6 p.m..
