Bears Hangs Tough but Falls to #13 Catawba in DII Showcase Game

Salisbury, N.C.-- Lenoir-Rhyne's Women Basketball hung tough but fell to #13 Catawba 67-57 in the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Showcase Game of the Week.

Stats of the Game:
  •  Catawba came into the game third in the nation with forcing 26.86 turnovers per game. The Indians forced the Bears today into 23 turnovers which  lead to 25 points off turnovers. On the other hand, The Bears only forced nine turnovers on the day.
  •  Both teams shot below their average from the floor. The Bears shot 36.4% while the Indians shot 34.2%. The difference was Catawba got 17 more shots up  thanks to a 16 offensive rebounds which lead to 10-5 second change point advantage.
  •  The Bears held Catawba to their second worst shooting day of the year. The Indians shot 31% last Saturday in a 60-56 win over Lincoln Memorial.
  •  Madeline Hardy just missed her 8th double-double of the year. Hardy finished with 9 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
  •  Kennedy Weigt continue to stay hot coming off a 20-point performance on Wednesday. Weigt finish today with 14 points and went 4-8 from three- point range. It is Weigt's fourth game with at least four three pointers already this year. 
  •  Both teams went deep into their bench today. Bears played eleven different players with nine different players scoring while Catawba played fourteen different players with ten scoring.  The Indians held a 26-25 advantage in bench points. 

Beyond the Box Score:
  • Catawba came in as the #13 team in the D2SIDA rankings, Catawba only loss this year was in OT 69-68 against Carson-Newman.
  • Since 2012, These two teams have spilt the last sixteen games. Before tonight, the home team has lost the last four games in this series.
  • Catawba and Lenoir-Rhyne both have a deep rotation. Each team has 9 players that average at least 10 minutes per game and neither team has a player averaging over 30 minutes a game this season.
  • Hardy also tied a career high with four blocks on the night. Hardy had four blocks against Queens earlier this season.
