Bears Fall to Carson-Newman in SAC Play

Hickory, N.C..--   Carson-Newman lead for all but 53 seconds in a 82-60 win over LR Wednesday evening at Shuford Gymnasium.  Madeline Hardy (15) and Ashley Woodroffe (14) scored in double figures for the Bears.

Stats of the Game:
  • Carson-Newman came out and scored 30 points in the opening quarter thanks to 10-20 from the floor and 6-8 from deep. 
  • The Eagles stretched their lead to 30 at halftime. The Bears struggled, shooting 5-17 in the first half (29.4%)
  • Ashley Woodroffe once again stuffed the box score with five assists, three rebounds and two steals to go along with her 14 points while shooting 6-13 from the field. 
  • LR came into the game shooting 70.1% from the free throw line but only shot 50% on Wednesday night. The lowest since December 3 against Wingate. 
  • Madeline Hardy finished with 15 points and nine rebounds. Hardy struggled with early foul trouble limiting her to eight first half minutes. 
  • The Bears came out hot in the second half and started the half on a 8-0 run to and cut the lead to 18 at point early in the second half.  LR ended up shooting 40% in the second half compared to the 29% in the first half. 

Beyond the Box Score:
  • With 15 points tonight sophomore Madeline Hardy now has 495 career points.  With five points on Saturday, Hardy will join Kennedy Weigt as active players with over 500 career points. 
  • With the win tonight, Carson-Newman has now won two straight games against the Bears and six out of the last seven. The Bears will look to snap this streak when they head to Jefferson City on February 12.
  • Jackie Denny scored her first points since February 28, 2018. Denny scored four points and four rebounds in five minutes of action this evening. 
Up Next:  Bears will concluded their mini 3 game home stretch with an afternoon tilt against Newberry Saturday at 2 PM.
