Men's Basketball Suffers Setback at Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. --- The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team dropped an 80-75 loss at Wingate on Saturday afternoon. The Bears shooters went cold, hitting just 7-of-32 (21.9 percent from long range) from long range in the loss.

Stats of the Game:
  • The teams were dead-locked at 37 apiece after 20 mintues of play before Wingate pulled away late. The ultra-competitive contest saw LR's largest lead being just four points while Wingate's biggest advantage was eight. 
  • Jarren Cottingham led the Bulldogs with a 25-point performance. Cottingham went 9-for-21 from the field and 3-of-10 from long range to go with three steals and three rebounds. 
  • Darius Simmons led LR with 17 points and added five rebounds, while R.J. Gunn tied a career-high with nine boards. On the offensive end, Gunn added 16 points. 
  • As a team, LR was a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line including and 8-for-8 mark from Simmons.
  • Jacob Dawkins came off the bench for the Bulldogs to chip in 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting. 
Beyond the Box Score:
  • The Bears won the earlier season battle by a final score of 79-72 on New Year's Day. 
  • Cottingham had 21 points in the first contest and averaged 23 points in the two matchups with LR on the year. 
  • 80 is the magic number for the Bears. LR is a perfect 10-0 when they hit the 80-point mark and just 1-8 when they fail to reach 80.
  • This is the second straight loss for the Bears.
  • LR entered in a four-way tie for fourth place in the SAC standings.
