Hickory, N.C.-- Lenoir-Rhyne's Baseball team won their first two home games of the year on Friday afternoon. The Bears used a complete game from
Alex Shirazi in game one, then collected a season-high 14 hits in game two to complete the sweep of the visiting Crimson Hawks.

STATS OF GAME ONE:
- After a leadoff infield single by Crimson Hawks's Nick Diandreth, Bryce Stober threw Diandreth out trying to steal second. Stober has already thrown out five possible base stealers on the season, leading the SAC.
- The Bears got on the board in the second, Mike McHugh led off the bottom of the second inning with his second homerun of the season.
- Later in the inning, Topher Grant walked and came around on a single by Connor Smith and a throwing error by the Crimson Hawks.
- In the top of the 4th, leadoff walks by McHugh and David Bell lead to two more runs for the Bears. Brock Johnson had a rbi single in the inning.
- The Crimson Hawks had a big chance in the top of the 7th. After scoring a run, they had runners on first and second with two-outs when Nick Hess hit a line drive towards left but Dalton Putnam layed out to catch ball to end the game.
- Alex Shirazi threw his second career complete game. Shirzai threw 120 pitches allowing 10 hits, 2 runs (1 earned) while striking out six to move to 1-0 on the season.
STATS OF GAME TWO:
- LR did not waste any time getting on the board in the 1st, as LR scored four runs with a Connor Smith two-run double followed by McHugh and Johnson RBI singles.
- Crimson Hawks got the game to 4-3 with a single run in the second and a pair of unearned runs in the third.
- In the top of the 4th, Stober pushed a bunt past a charging first baseman for a two-run single.
- LR added insurance runs with a Xander Ferlenda RBI in the bottom seventh scoring Stober, then scored five runs (four unearned) in the bottom of the 8th. Ferlenda came up with a big two-run double.
- Bears used sixth pitchers in the win, Ben Friebel picked up the win in relief throwing two scoreless innings. Andrew Dye and Kanan Butler each added scoreless innings for LR.
- Eight different Bears had hits and rbi's in game 2 led by Ferlenda, who went 4-5 with 3 RBI's
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- The last meetings between these teams happened in 2012. Indiana (PA.) stopped in Hickory on their eight game Georgia, North Carolina swing. The teams spilt a weekday double-header with the Crimson Hawks winning game one 20-7 and the Bears getting game two, 8-1.
- First time since 2017, the Bears have won their home-opener.
- Today marks the first two games of an eight game home stand for the Bears. The home stand will conclude next weekend with the first SAC weekend series against Carson-Newman.
- Brock Johnson went 3-4 with three runs scored in the two games today.
- 14 hits marks a season high for the Bears, Bears had 13 hits in the 13-inning marathon last Saturday against #20 Mount Olive.
