HICKORY, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team opened up South Atlantic Conference play with an 18-4 drubbing of Newberry on Wednesday afternoon. The Bears scored the game's first six goals and held Newberry to its lowest scoring output of the season.

STATS OF THE GAME:

Cathleen Gaffney got the scoring started with two of LR's first three goals on the afternoon. Gaffney would add a pair of assists to pad her team-record total to 92 on her career.

Alyssa Sack led the Bears in scoring with four goals and one assist for five points.
Suzy Smith finished with one goal and three assists for the Bears.

Isabelle Dunnam was a standout defensively for LR, causing three turnovers and coming away with four ground balls.
• LR had 16 of the 24 draw controls on the afternoon, paced by four from
Jillian Seker.
• 11 different players scored a goal for LR in the victory.
• LR held a convincing 31-11 advantage in shots and 27-10 lead in shots on goal. The Bears had a 21-12 lead in ground balls and made Newberry turn the ball over 17 times.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• The Bears are a perfect 10-0 all-time against Newberry and own a 5-0 mark at Moretz Stadium.
• Newberry is one of six SAC opponents the Bears have never lost to. The others are Wingate, Mars Hill, UVA Wise, Tusculum and Lincoln Memorial.
• The win gives LR 47 all-time at Moretz Stadium.
• This marked the 91st all-time victory for the Bears.
