Men's Basketball Comeback Falls Short to Catawba 92-87 in Regular Season Finale

HICKORY, N.C. ---  In their last home game of the 2019-20 campaign, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team's comeback fell just short against Catawba 92-87 on Saturday afternoon. 
This now splits the season series 1-1 between LR and Catawba.

Stats of the Game:
  • The Bears shot 46.67 percent from the field in the first half but started off the game slow. Catawba would go on a 13-0 run in a five minute stretch to take the lead 25-10. Cooper Fowler would have 12 of LR's 36 points in the first half. 
  • Catawba started to pull away in the second half 64-42 with 13:42 remaining which was the biggest lead of the day. 
  • Three players for Lenoir-Rhyne finished in double figures in scoring. Fowler would finish with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting and five rebounds. Darius Simmons finished with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting and four assists. R.J. Gunn had a team-high 24 points on 8-of-18 shooting with six rebounds.
  • The Bears would erase a 16 point deficit in the finals six minutes to three points with :19 seconds to play. The run was spurred by a Davion Bradford dunk at the 6:32 mark. 
  • Catawba was led by Terrence Whitfield with 21 points and three rebounds. Devin Cooper and Marcell Haskett also added 17 points a piece for the Indians

  • Lenoir-Rhyne was previously 13-0 when scoring 80+ points.
  • This was the last home game of the regular season.
  • LR defeated Catawba previously this season in the NCAA Division II National Showcase Game which was broadcast on ESPN3.
