Newberry, SC--. #15 Newberry scored six of their seven runs with two-outs to led them to a 7-4 victory over the Bears in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening.

STATS OF GAME:
- Freshman Jackson Benjamin got the ball for his first career start. Benjamin went two innings, allowing 4 runs.
- Newberry got a run in the first with four hits but a big double play started by Xander Ferlenda limited the damage.
- Mike McHugh tied the game with his first homerun of the season in the 2nd. McHugh has now hit safely in all four games this season.
- Newberry's first three hitters reached base in the bottom of the third. LR almost got out of it with only one run but, with two outs, Luke Orr hit a 3-2 pitch into left center for a bases clearing double. The double gave the Wolves a 5-1 lead.
- For the second game in a row, Ben Friebel gave the Bears two scoreless innings in relief. Friebel has only allowed one hit in four innings out of the pen.
- Andrew Dye and Hayden Gresham also came out of the pen and put up a zero in their inning of work.
- Newberry added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th with another two out hit. The Wolves scored six of their seven runs with two out.
- The Bears did not go quietly in the 9th. Conor McGee had a two-out, two-run double in the top of the 9th to cut the lead to 7-4 but Newberry's Jacob Jeffcoat stuck out Adam Dempski to end the game.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Even through Newberry is a SAC foe, this game is a non-conference game. For the 2020 conference season, Each team will play 9 out of the 11 other SAC teams for a total of 27 conference games. The Bears will not play Newberry or Coker this season for conference play.
- Newberry did sweep the Bears last year at home including a walk off in game 3 of the series.
- Will Jones single in the 6th inning was his 90th career hit as a Bear.
- Bears Bryce Stober threw out two more runners trying to steal today. He has now throwing out 4 out of 7 possible base stealers. Newberry entered tonight with 15 stolen bases in their first three games, which leads the SAC but Stober threw out both runners.
- McGee's hit in the 9th was his first career hit and rbi.
