Mount Olive, N.C.--.#20 Mount Olive took the first two games of the weekend series on Saturday. Game 1 was an instant classic with six different lead changes that saw Mount Olive tied the game in the bottom of the 9th,10th and 11th before winning it in the 13th. In game 2, Mount Olive held the Bears to one hit in a 4-0 shutout.

STATS OF GAME ONE:
- Mount Olive stuck early scoring 3 runs in the first two frames. After the first two innings, Alex Shirazi settled down throwing zero's on the board for the next three innings. Shirzai's final stat line was 5 IP's, 5 hits, 3 runs with 3 strikeouts.
- Bears got a run in the 6th as Mike McHugh singled in Xander Ferlenda. McHugh has now hit safely in all five games this year.
- Bears took their first lead of the game in the 7th. Ferlenda's RBI single followed by a David Bell 2-run double gave the Bears the 4-3 lead.
- Bears took the 4-3 lead to the ninth but Mount Olive battled back. After a one-out walk then single, Mount Olive tied it on a rbi groundout.
- After Will Jones gave the Bears a 5-4 lead in the 10th, Mount Olive's Joe Mason hit his second homerun of the year to tie the game once again.
- Ferlenda hit his first homerun as a Bear in the top of the 11th but for the third inning in a row, the Trojans came back with an rbi single in the bottom half.
- Mount Olive then capitalized in the 13th with the bases loaded and one out as the Trojans Dusty Baker hit an rbi single gave that gave UMO the 7-6 win.
- Bears 9-1-2 spots in the lineups, (Bryce Stober, Ferlenda, Bell) had nine of the Bears thirteen hits.
STATS OF GAME TWO:
- Game two was a schedule seven inning game, Mount Olive's Hunter Stevens allowed only 1 hit in his complete game shutout. Stevens stuck out nine Bears.
- Bell got the only hit for the Bears in the second inning.
- Trojans scored two runs with a two-out single in the Bottom of the 2nd then added two unearned runs in the third.
- Jarrod Large threw 4.1 IP's allowing 4 runs (2 earned) while striking out 5 Trojans.
- Greg Collins and Joey Cobb pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in relief for the Bears.
- McHugh did not get a hit in game 2 for the first time all season but did reach base with a walk and then stolen his first base of the year.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Mount Olive opened their season last weekend with a win at #1 Tampa 11-3. Tampa is the defending NCAA DII National Champion.
- Mount Olive won 31 games last year and made the NCAA DII Southeast Regional. Mount Olive did make the trip to Hickory last year and swept the Bears in a 3 games series early in the year.
- In Game 1, Freshman Bryce Stober had his first career 4 hit game. Stober is now up to .388 on the season. Stober also caught all 19 innings for the Bears.
