Hickory, N.C.--Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis swept West Virginia Wesleyan 7-0 at home on Wednesday afternoon.
Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 5-3 on the season and improve their home record to 5-2. The Bears earn their second sweep on the season.
The Bears started the evening on fire winning three straight doubles matches to put LR up 1-0.
Mauricio Hernandez and
Alex Hyman started the match off winning big 6-1 defeating Papworth/McIntosh.
Rhodri Atkinson and
Josh Lazenby clinched the doubles point by defeating Fernandez/Simaiofordis 6-2. This duo is now 5-2 on the season and have the best record LR as a tandem.
On the singles side,
Paul Lenz gathered the first win putting LR up 2-0 defeating McIntosh 6-3,6-3.
Eric van Nunen then followed Lenz momentum closing out in no. 6 singles 6-4,6-4 over Papworth putting LR up 3-0. LR woud then win the next four matches in a row sweeping the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats 7-0. Hyman and
Lewis Scott both played three sets thrillers that they were able to come out on top. Hyman defeated Simaiofordis 5-7,6-0,10-5, while Scott defeated Lyudinovsk 6-3,4-6,10-8.
Rhodri Atkinson continues his two match winning streak in no. 1 singles winning 6-3,6-0 over Laipold.
The Bears next match at home will be Friday, March 4 against Mars Hill.
