Hickory, NC - Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis swept SAC opponents Mars Hill 7-0 at home on a windy Friday afternoon.
The Bears progress to 1-1 in conference play and improve their home record to 6-2.
In the doubles, LR showed three dominant performances to take the doubles point. Josh Lazenby and Rhodri Atkinson secured the first rubber with a score of 6-1 over Leo Bernardes and Tom Farman. Alex Hyman and Mauricio Hernandez went on to clinch the doubles point at no.2 doubles, winning 6-1. Just seconds after, Paul Lenz and Lewis Scott sealed a third doubles win, also by a score of 6-1. LR would lead Mars Hill 1-0 going into the singles.
At no.2 singles, Hyman quickly extended LR's lead to 2-0 with a 6-1 6-2 victory over Fernando Neto. At the no.6 spot, Eric Van Nunen continued the trend, wrapping up a convincing 6-1 6-3 win over Kyrel Trim. Lenz clinched the match for LR with a 6-1 4-6 6-1 victory at no.4 singles against Tom Farman. The match exhibited some crafty net play as well as some lengthy baseline rallies. LR would go on to win the next three singles matches without dropping a set to complete the 7-0 sweep over Mars Hill.
Patrik Alvestrand, competing in his first match of the season, won at no.6 singles, while Scott and Atkinson were both victorious.
