Bears Slug Three Homers in Sweep of Lake Erie

Hickory, N.C.--  Topher Grant, Manny Montes and David Bell each went deep in the night cap to gave the Bears the 9-1 win. In the opener, Bryce Stober went 3-3 including the game-winning single in the 6th inning for a 5-4 win. With the sweep, the Bears are now winners of six of their last eight games.

STATS OF GAME ONE:
  • After Lake Erie stormed to an early 3-0 lead, the Bears scored three runs in the third. Xander Ferlenda had an rbi single and Will Jones drove in a pair with a two-run double in the inning for LR.
  • Joey Cobb got the start for LR. It was Cobb's third start of the year. Cobb went a season high 5 innings, giving up 3 runs (0 earned) but got a no decision after Lake Erie battled back with two runs to tie it in the 5th. 
  • With the game tied at five, Bryce Stober delivered the game-winning hit with his rbi single in the 6th. Stober finished the day with 2 RBIs. 
  • Brett Fulk gave the Bears two scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the Bears.  It was Fulk's 12th appearance on the season, which tied him with Ben Friebel for the team lead. Fulk bought his ERA down to 2.21 ERA with his outing. 
  • Speaking of Friebel, he pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his 6th save on the year, tying him for the SAC lead. 
  • The tablesetters for the Bears, Ferlenda and Jones were 4-7 from the top two spots in the lineup on the afternoon for the Bears. Ferlenda, Jones and Stober combined for 7 out the Bears 9 hits in the game. 

STATS OF GAME TWO: 
  • Sophomore Hayden Gresham got his first career start in night cap. Gresham went a career-best four innings, allowing just four hits and no runs. Gresham picked up his first career win. 
  • Bears struck for seven runs on eight hits in the bottom of the second. Grant connected for his first homerun of the season during the inning. 
  • Montes and Bell connected on solo home runs in the third and fourth innings respectively.
  • Andrew Dye and Nate Collins both threw scoreless inning out of the bullpen for the Bears. 
  • Andy Lopez made his first start as a Bear behind the plate. Lopez finished 2-4 on the night with 2 RBIs.
  • Montes, Bell, Ferlenda,and Lopez all had multiple hits games for the Bears in the night cap. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 
  • With the sweep today, LR moves to 4-0 all-time against Lake Erie
  • In 2018, the Bears welcomed the Storm to Hickory and came out with a 9-1 win. Former Bear and current Atlanta Braves minor league prospect, Justin Dean went 4-5 in the game with 3 runs scored.
  • With hits in each game, Ferlenda extended his hitting streak to six games. During the stretch Ferlenda is hitting .500, 11 for 22. 
  • Bears move their home record to 8-3 on the season.
