Bears Edge Young Harris 13-12; Sack Scores Six Goals

HICKORY, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team ended its six-game homestand to open the regular season with a narrow 13-12 win over Young Harris on Monday afternoon. Alyssa Sack led the Bears with six goals and Gia Colombo netted a hat trick in the victory to give LR three straight wins.

STATS OF THE GAME:
• Sack scored four times in the first half and had her first three goals in the first 14:40 of the game. The six goals on the afternoon move Sack's team-leading total to 24 on the year. 
• LR had a 6-3 lead after Sack's third goal but the Mountain Lions answered with three straight to even the game. After LR scored twice in a row, YHC closed out the first half with a 4-0 scoring spurt to take a 10-8 lead into the break. 
• The LR defense tightened in the second half and only allowed a pair of scores in the final 30 minutes. LR scored the first four goals of the period to take a 12-10 lead and Cathleen Gaffney's score with 13 minutes to play proved to be the game-winner. Young Harris would cut the lead to one with 7:08 to play but neither team would score in the remaining time.
• Sierra Haas scored three times and had an assist for Young Harris and Mary Deatrick and Channing Milford each finished with two goals and two assists.  
• Colombo led LR with three caused turnovers and five ground balls. Michelle Tang secured seven draw controls for LR who led in that category 17-10. 
Teanna Sieben played the final 30 minutes in goal after Cristi Rowland earned the start with Sieben making six saves and getting credit with the victory. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• The Bears are 2-0 against Young Harris with this being the first victory in Hickory. The last time these two teams played was in March of 2014. 
• Sack hit the 90 goal mark of her career. With 10 more, Sack can become just the seventh player in LR history to hit 100.
• Gaffney is now six assists shy of 100 for her career. Gaffney already owns the team record for career assists. 

UP NEXT:  The Bears hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to No. 7 Rollins for a 12:30 p.m. contest on Sunday afternoon. The Bears will play twice in Florida before coming hit the road for a pair of SAC matchups.
