Women's Swimming Opens Season With Tri-Meet Split at Mars Hill

Mars Hill N.C.-- Women's Swimming open their 2021-22 season with a spilt in the Mars Hill Tri-Meet Friday night at Mars Hill. The Bears fell to #8 UNC Pembroke 155-104 but beat the host Lions 158-98. Lisa Boernigen took home four wins in the first meet of the year. 

The Bears kicked off the season and the meet with the comeback win in the 200 Medley Relay. The team consisting of Emily Harness, Kimberly Scheiber, Lisa Boernigen and Elizabeth Bowman.rallied to beat UNC Pembroke and take home victory with a time of 1:53.60. 

Boernigen then went on to win the 100 fly (58.51),100 free (54.25) and then broke the school record on her way to a two second win in the 100 IM (1:00.16).

Scheiber took home victory in the 100 back with a time of 1:02.33 and freshmen Emily Harness from Pickerington, OH had a strong collegiate debut with two third place finishes and a fifth place finish to go along with the win in the 200 Medlay relay. 

The Bears will return to the pool on November 6th with the Guilford Invitational in Greensboro.
