Women's Basketball Falls At Carson-Newman 80-65

Jefferson City, Tenn.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball team traveled to Carson-Newman for their third straight SAC road contest. The Bears committed a season-high 25 turnovers in an 80-65 lost to the Eagles. Brandi Hudson (18) and Tilda Lindstrom (14) each had a career-high in points for the Bears.

STATS AND INFO:
  • Four of the top ten SAC scorers were on the court tonight. For the Eagles, Braelyn Wykle is second in the SAC with an 18.3 ppg while Lindsey Taylor is 10th at 13.8.  For the Bears, Emily Harman is 5th in the conference in scoring with 15.4 ppg while Freshman Maddie Dillinger is 7th with 14.6 ppg. 
  • This is the fourth straight game in the series in Jefferson City. The Eagles have not made the trip to Hickory since January 8th, 2020 but will travel to Hickory on January 15th, 2022.
  • LR came into the game shooting 79.3 from the free-throw line, which leads the SAC. Harman is second in the conference making 19 of her first 20 free throws. 
  • C-N has now won six straight games in the series. 
FIRST HALF:
  • The First quarter saw the Bears with two 6-0 runs and C-N with a 6-0 run of their own. After the Bears' second run tied it at 17-17, the Eagles used a 4-0 run in the last minute of the quarter to take a 21-17 lead into the second quarter. 
  • Turnovers were the story in the 1st quarter, the teams combined for 15 turnovers in the quarter with each team with 11 points off turnovers. 
  • LR closed the second quarter shooting just 3-14 from the floor over the last seven minutes to allow C-N to open a double-digit lead. 
  • Hudson hit her first two career three-pointers in the second quarter. Hudson paced the Bears with 10 points in the half. 
SECOND HALF:
  • Bears opened the third quarter with a 7-0 spurt to cut the lead to three but the Eagles responded with a 7-0 run of their own to open a double-digit lead again.
  • LR scored 23 points on 9-13 shooting in the third quarter but seven more turnovers allowed the Eagles to extend their lead to 11 to end the quarter. 
  • A Maddie Dillinger basket with 4:43 cut the Eagles lead to single digits but the Bears could not get any closer and went the last 2:21 without a basket. 
  • Eagles shot 56% from the floor in the second half to keep the Bears from making a run. 
  • LR had a season-high 25 turnovers in the game. Bears have turned it over at least 18 times the each of the last four games.

ABOUT THE BEARS:
  • Hudson had a career-high 18 points in the game. Hudson has had at least 15 points in each of her last four games for the Bears. Hudson also added a career-high four assists and tied a career high with seven rebounds.
  • Lindstrom scored in double figures for the time in her collegiate career. Lindstrom scored 14 points on 6-7 shooting for the freshman from Husqvarna, Sweden.
  • Harman stuffed the box score with six assists, four rebounds and tied a career-high with four steals. Harman now has 40 career steals in just 23 games as a Bear but the Bears leading scorer was held to just nine points in the game. 
  • Dillinger failed to score in double figures for the first time this season. Dillinger went 1-6 from the floor and was held to just three points on the evening. 
  • Hannah McClung had a season-high 12 points tonight. It was the 13th time the senior has been in double figures in her career but the first time this year. 
NOTABLE EAGLES:
  • The SAC player of the year from last year, Braelyn Wykle had a game-high 23 points on 9-18 shooting in her 36 minutes of action. 
  • Lindsey Taylor was a perfect six for six from the floor to add 16 points for the Eagles.
  • The Eagles had 12 blocked shots on the evening. Taylor Goforth and Sydney Pearce with four each. 
UP NEXT:  The Bears have a ten-day break before finishing their four-game road stand with a matchup against No. 14 Catawba next Saturday (December 11th). Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 P.M.
