HICKORY, N.C. – In the 2021 season opener, the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team outlasted Montevallo by a final score of 12-10 on Sunday afternoon. The game was delayed by an hour due to snow on the field but conditions were perfect once play started.

STATS OF THE GAME:

Kaitlyn Cavanaugh got the scoring started for LR, finding the back of the net 3:50 into the start of the contest. However, the teams would trade each of the first six goals before Montevallo scored back-to-back and took a 4-3 advantage.
• LR answered with a 3-0 scoring spurt led by a pair of goals by
Frances Williams and another by
Alyssa Sack. LR took a 6-4 lead thanks to the scoring run.
• The game was tied at the half but LR outscored Montevallo 5-3 in the second half to come away with the victory.

Sack finished with a game-high four goals and added a pair of assists for six points on the afternoon. Cavanaugh had three goals and two assists in her LR debut and Williams added a hat trick.
• The Bears outshot Montevallo 25-22 and held a 20-17 advantage in shots on goal. The Bears also held a 19-16 margin in ground balls on the afternoon.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• This was the first all-time meeting between these two programs and pitted head coach
Carlee Buck against former assistant Adriana Piontek who now is the coach for the Falcons.
• LR has now won three straight season openers. The Bears had beaten Belmont Abbey each of the past two seasons before todays' win over Montevallo.
• The win was the 50
th in program history at Moretz Stadium.
UP NEXT: The Bears are off until hosting Belmont Abbey on February 24 at 4 p.m.
