Ranel's Big Day Helps Bears Sweep Limestone

Gaffney, S.C.--E.J. Ranel's big day helped the Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball team sweep host Limestone on Monday. In game one, Ranel went 4-4 with three doubles and three RBIs and connected on his 11th home run of the season to help the Bears came back for a 9-4 win in game two. Ranel's three doubles in the first game ties a school record for the most doubles in a single game.

STATS OF GAME ONE:
  • Limestone jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first thanks to a Benjamin Huber RBI single and a two-run single by Brian Forbes.
  • The lead did not last long as the Bears tied it with three runs of their own in the top half. Mike McHugh's RBI single, a Wade Cuda RBI double and a Bryce Stober safety squeeze tied the game at 3.
  • The Bears then scored the next nine runs in the contest. LR put up a four-spot in the 5th then a five-spot in the 7th. 
  • Nick Clarno crushed a two-run home run during the five-run 7th. 
  • Andrew Patrick threw five scoreless innings after the three-run first to earn his sixth win of the season. Patrick allowed five hits and struck out seven in his six-inning outing. 
  • Matt Mackey, Xander Ferlenda, and McHugh joined Ranel with at least two hits. 
STATS OF GAME TWO: 
  • Limestone scored single runs in the first and fourth before the Bears got on the board in the 6th.
  • Ranel connected on his 11th home run in the 6th. 
  • Cuda gave the Bears their first lead of the day in the 7th with a two-run, two-out double. 
  • Bears broke the game open in the 8th with six runs including a three-run home run for Ferlenda. 
  • Lanham moved to 6-0 on the year throwing seven innings striking out eight Saints while only allowing one earned run. 
  • Kanan Butler put up a zero out of the Bears bullpen for his third straight outing. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Ranel is the 11th Bear to have at least three doubles in a game and the first to do it since Grant Fuller hit three on March 16, 2019 against Lincoln Memorial. 
  • Ranel's run scored in the 5th inning of game one was his 75th career run. 
  • Will Jones is four hits shy of 150 career hits in his career.
  • Stober led-off game one today for the first time in his LR career. 
  • Lanham is up to 72 strikeouts on the year, while leads the SAC and is 19 ahead of Anderson's Joseph Cottone and 20 ahead of teammate Alex Shirazi.  
  • Lanham's six wins are tied for second in the conference and Lanham moved to his ERA to 1.98, which is good for fourth in the conference. 
UP NEXT:  Bears will return home tomorrow to face Coker in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
