Late Surge Sends Women's Lax Past Tusculum

HICKORY, N.C. -- Staring a 9-7 deficit with 19:38 to play, the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team ended the game with seven unanswered goals to defeat Tusculum on Monday evening. Cathleen Gaffney had a goal and three assists in the final 20 minutes to lead the Bears to the comeback win.

STATS OF THE GAME:
- Suzy Smith led the Bears with four goals and Michelle Tang added three. Gaffney finished the game with two goals and four assists.
- Makenna Filley and Frances Williams each scored twice and Alyssa Sack added a score. 
- Williams led the squad with five ground balls and five draw controls and added a pair of caused turnovers. Isabelle Dunnam and Filley each added four caused turnovers and Cassie Lafler had three. 
- In goal, Teanna Sieben made seven saves to earn her fourth win of the season.
- LR held a 31-21 advantage in shots and a 22-16 edge in shots on goal.
- LR scooped up 24 ground balls, tied for the second-most in a game this season.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
-Lenoir-Rhyne is now 6-0 all-time against Tusculum
-This was the second-closest game in the head-to-head matchup between the two teams. In 2016, LR won 16-14 in the closest game in the series.
- The Bears held Tusculum scoreless for the final 19:38 of the game.
