WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team opened the 2021 season with a pair of losses in day one of the Bash at the Beach Tournament hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic. The Bears took on No. 18 Hillsdale and American International in the opening day, the first matches against non-conference opponents since Oct. 12, 2019.
GAME ONE:
Final: #18 Hillsdale 3, Lenoir-Rhyne 0
Records: Lenoir-Rhyne (0-1), Hillsdale (3-2)
STATS OF THE MATCH:
- Hillsdale hit .323 as a team and held the Bears to a .056 hitting percentage en route to a 25-13, 25-12, 25-13 sweep.
- Colette Romp paced LR with seven kills and Taylor Prall added six.
- Prall finished with 16 digs and Rachel Bewick added 16 of her own. The Bears were led by 11 assists by Mackenzie Hulsey.
- Braelyn Faust tallied five blocks in the losing effort.
GAME TWO:
Final: American International
3, Lenoir-Rhyne 1

STATS OF THE MATCH:
- After falling behind 2-0 in a pair of 25-22 defeats, the Bears rallied for a 25-23 victory in the third set.
- Led by a balanced offensive attack, LR had four players with at least nine kills led by Romp and Prall with 10 apiece.
- Helen Hamilton and Hulsey each finished with 19 assists and Bewick added 26 digs.
- Prall had her first double-double of the season with 12 digs.
UP NEXT:
The Bears will continue the Bash at the Beach tomorrow with two more matches. LR opens with host Palm Beach Atlantic at 11:30 a.m. and then conclude the weekend tournament with a 4:30 p.m. contest against Emmanuel.
