Volleyball Wins Fifth Straight with 3-1 Victory over Mars Hill

HICKORY, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team won its fifth straight match, this time topping Mars Hill 3-1 inside Shuford Gym on Tuesday night. The Bears avenged a 3-0 home loss at the hands of Mars Hill in the spring.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • The Bears hit .243 as a team in the opening frame on their way to a 25-19 set one win. Prall and Faust each had four kills in the first set and Clark added three.
  • Despite trailing 12-7 in the second set, the Bears rallied for a 25-23 win to capture the momentum. The set was tied at 23 before LR ended with the final two points of the frame.
  • The second set was tied on 10 different occasions and the lead changed five times before LR pulled out the victory.
  • Mars Hill would pull out a narrow 25-21 win in the third set, the second straight match the Bears couldn't close out a 2-0 lead in the third set. 
  • LR stormed back with a 25-19 win to close it out. LR held Mars Hill to a hitting percentage of 0 in the win.
  • Prall finished the night with 17 kills and 20 digs and Faust had 10 kills and four blocks.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • All first points of the past six sets have been scored by the opponents but LR has won five of those sets.
  • Parkley Hennings set a career high with 16 digs on the night.
  • LR improved to 54-29-1 all-time against Mars Hill including a 26-12 mark at home.
  • Five players had double-digit digs for LR who totaled a season-high 101 digs as a team. Mackenzie Hulsey led the way with a career-high 24.
UP NEXT:  The three-game home stand comes to an end as the Bears travel to Limestone for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday.
