Bears Fall to Carson-Newman 81-70 on Saturday

Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team fell to Carson-Newman 81-70 Saturday afternoon inside the Shu. Emily Harman was one rebound shy of a double-double as the sophomore scored 25 points on 11-18 shooting in the contest while adding nine rebounds.

STATS AND INFO:
  • Carson-Newman moves to 2-1 inside the Shu this year. The Eagles lost to No. 3 Lander but beat USC-Aiken earlier this year in the Peach Belt/SAC Challenge in Hickory. 
  • The Eagles have now won seven straight games against the Bears. 
  • The Bears have finished their season series with the Eagles but the Bears still have yet to face three SAC Conference teams (Lincoln Memorial, Queens, Mars Hill)
  • The Bears have played a tough stretch of conference games to start. So far the winning percentage of the teams the Bears have played entering today inside the conference is .618%. The schedule will soften for the Bears moving forward, the teams left on the schedule have a .467 winning percentage. 
  • Tatum McBride got her first start of the season and her sixth career for the Bears. 
FIRST HALF:
  • First quarter saw both teams shot at least 50% from the floor. Eagles went 10-20 in the quarter while the Bears shot 9-16 from the floor. LR did not attempt a three pointer in the quarter while the Eagles went 2-7 (28.6%) from deep. 
  • Harman (12) and Brandi Hudson (6) were the Bears' only scorers in the quarter. 
  • Harman stuffed the box score in the first half with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals while playing all twenty minutes.
  • The Bears did cool off in the second quarter, shooting 37.5%, while the Eagles shot 60%, which helped them race out to a thirteen point lead at the half. 
SECOND HALF:
  • An early third quarter 9-0 run for the Bears cut the Eagles' lead to 51-47 with 4:44 left, but a C-N 13-5 run to close the quarter gave the Eagles a 12-point lead heading into the fourth, where the Bears could not get any closer.
  • Carson-Newman made 8-10 free throws in the second half to limit the Bears comeback attempts.
  • Tilda Lindstrom had all ten of her points in the second half. 
ABOUT THE BEARS:
  • Harman flirted with a triple double finishing with 25 points, nine rebounds, seven assists while playing all forty minutes for the second straight game.
  • Hudson finished with 17 points, including 11 in the second half. Hudson was limited to six minutes in the first half with foul trouble.
  • Megan Landsiedel added five rebounds and five assists on the afternoon.
  • Bears had 23 turnovers in the game, and the Eagles scored 22 points off those turnovers. 
NOTABLE EAGLES:
  • Last years SAC Conference Player of the Year Braelyn Wykle scored a game-high 28 points.
  • Addison Byrd (15) and Skylar Boshears (10) were also in the double figures for Carson-Newman.
  • Eagles had fourteen steals on the afternoon led by five from Abby Wilson and four from Campbell Penland. 
UP NEXT: LR will travel to Wingate for a 5:30 tip-off on Wednesday.
