Women's Basketball Falls At SAC-Leader Wingate

Wingate, N.C.--  The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team fell to SAC-Leader Wingate 83-42 on the road Wednesday evening as the Bulldogs move to 13-0 in SAC play. Brandi Hudson scored in double figures for the sixth straight game to lead the Bears.

STATS AND INFO:
  • Wingate wins their 15th straight game tonight, which is the longest streak currently in DII
  • The Bulldogs also go to 13-0 in the SAC for the first time in program history. 
  • The Bears have not won in Cuddy Arena since 1/27/2016, a span of seven games. 
  • Megan Landsiedel made her first career start for the Bears tonight.
  • The 41 point loss is the largest loss since an 84-34 loss at Wingate on November 24th, 2015.
FIRST HALF:
  • After a slow start by both teams, Wingate finished the quarter with a 15-4 run over the last five minutes to open a 13 point lead after the first ten minutes. Wingate's Bryanna Troutman scored ten points in the quarter while Bears were led by Blaikley Crooks with four. 
  • Bears shot 5-15 in the opening quarter including missing all five three-point attempts, while Wingate shot 52.9% from the floor (9-17).
  • The second quarter was all Bulldogs as Wingate hit all four three point attempts en route to a 66.7% shooting percentage in the quarter while their defense held the Bears to just 28.6% shooting in the quarter. 
  • Wingate took a 27 point lead into halftime as nine different players scored for them in the first twenty minutes.
SECOND HALF:
  • The second half did not get any better for the Bears as the Bulldogs grew their lead to 43 points during the fourth quarter. 
  • Wingate outrebounded the Bears 49-26 on the evening with a 17-9 advantage on the offensive glass.
  • For the second time this year, the Bears failed to shoot 30% from the floor finishing at 29% on the night (16-55).
ABOUT THE BEARS:
  • Hudson scored in double figures for the sixth straight game with a team-high 12 points on 5-13 shooting.
  • Emily Harman finished with five points, five assists and four rebounds in the contest.
  • Crooks added six points as the sophomore is five points away from 200 in her career. 
NOTABLE BULLDOGS:
  • Troutman, last week's SAC player of the week finished with 14 points and eight rebounds in just 21 minutes of action. 
  • Haleigh Brandon added a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds. 
  • Hannah Clark and Mikayla Dyson each scored ten points for Wingate.
UP NEXT:  Bears will return home to host Coker on Saturday at 2:00 P.M.
