GAME ONE INFO
  • The Hurricanes threw the first punches of the game in the 1st and 2nd inning after an RBI ground-rule double in the 1st and a sacrifice fly and double in the 2nd against LR starter Joshua Lanham. After those two innings, Lanham bounced back to put up zeros in the 3rd through 5th innings.
  • After leaving four men on base through the first four innings, the Bears broke through in the 5th. Brayden Collett led the inning off with an infield single, and a throwing error and a walk put two men in scoring position for Drew Yniesta. The Erskine transfer came through, lining a ball down the left field line to drive in two runners to make it 3-2.
  • Luis Atiles then continued his two-out RBI streak, knocking in Cole Laskowski, who walked earlier in the inning. It was 3-3 after five.
  • The Bears added another run in the 6th, once again started by Collett. The freshman tripled to lead off the inning and then came around to score on an RBI from David Bell
  • As they often do against opposing bullpens, the Bears played long ball again. In the 7th, it was Anthony Porrino with with a solo shot to right center field for his fifth homer of the year. Porrino's 24 RBIs are fifth in the nation.
  • Atiles then hit his first home run as a Bear in the 8th, a three-run shot. It was 8-3 at that point, and that is how it ended.
  • Lanham finished pitching five innings, allowing three runs, eight hits and striking out seven. The Bear bullpen continued its sensational season, pitching the final four innings, allowing just one hit and walking two. Braden Houston pitched the 6th and got the win, Jackson Reid pitched the 7th, Ben Friebel pitched the 8th, and Caleb Cockerham pitched the 9th.
GAME TWO INFO
  • Game two was a marathon 13-inning, rainy affair that saw the Bears trailing by a run entering the bottom of the 9th inning. In a pinch-hit at-bat, Matt Mackey blasted the game-tying solo home run to left field to send it extra innings.
  • Once again, the Hurricanes struck first, adding an unearned run in the 3rd to make it 1-0.
  • Yniesta picked up his third RBI of the day in the 5th on an RBI infield single to tie the game at one.
  • The Bears took their first lead of the day when Porrino came home on a drop third strike to Bell in the 6th.
  • The Hurricanes took the lead in the 9th inning when two runners came home on a passed ball. It was 3-2 GSW after eight and a half innings before Mackey's homer tied the game in the 9th.
  • The Bears finally won it in the 13th inning when Ryan Healy picked up the game-winning RBI on a short grounder to the left side that Nick Clarno was able to score on to end the game.
  • Austin Edwards turned in his best start as a Bear, pitching six innings, allowing only two hits and one unearned run. Edwards added nine strikeouts as well.
  • Henry Cartrett pitched a scoreless 7th, Spencer Floyd pitched a scoreless 8th, Kanan Butler pitched a scoreless 10th, Michael Allen pitched a scoreless 11th, and Joey Cobb earned his first win of the season after pitching the final two innings for LR. The Bear pitching staff only surrendered six hits in 13 innings.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • After going 10-11 at Durham Field last season, LR finishes this 13-game homestand a perfect 13-0.
  • Game two was the Bears' first extra-inning game of the season. LR was 0-3 in extra-inning affairs in 2021.
  • LR's bullpen pitched 11 innings on the day and allowed just two earned runs.
  • The 13-game winning streak is the longest since 2014-15 when the Bears won 19 games in a row to finish 2014 and begin 2015.
  • LR's 16 wins are the most for any team in college baseball regardless of Division.
