Men's Lacrosse Runs Unranked Win Streak to 25

HICKORY, N.C.- The No. 14 Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team ran its winning streak against unranked opponents to 25 in a row with a 15-9 win over Anderson on a wet Wednesday night under the lights at Moretz Stadium. Myles Moffat and Joe Venazio each recorded hat tricks for LR who scored all 15 of their goals from the second period on.

STATS OF THE GAME
  • For the third time this season, the Bears were held scoreless through the entirety of the first quarter. Anderson came out of the gates hot and led 3-0 after one and scored the first four goals of the evening.
  • LR wouldn't get their first goal of the night until the 9:55 mark of the second quarter as All-American Myles Moffat took a feed from Ayden Mowry and found the back of the net.
  • The Moffat goal awoke the LR offense who would score five goals in a 6:13 span, capped by a score from Liam McGrath, to take a 5-4 lead.
  • Anderson netted the equalizer with 27 seconds left in the first half to send the teams to the break all square at five.
  • After trading goals to start the second half, LR took the upper hand with a 4-0 scoring run started by a man-up goal from Kyle Hatcher.
  • The Bears would put a six-spot on the board in the third quarter and added four more in the fourth while Anderson only scored four times in the final 30 minutes.
  • Aside from hat tricks from Moffat and Venazio, the Bears got two goals each from Will Canata, Colten McCracken and McGrath. 
  • The player of the game for the Bears was Nate Ashley who was inserted at face off with the Bears trailing 4-0. Ashley would win seven faceoffs and added four caused turnovers and three ground balls on the evening. 
  • James Brugger also added four caused turnovers and Victor Powell forced three giveaways. McCracken led LR with six ground balls.
  • Anderson was paced by three goals from Garrett Hawkins. FOGO Cam Weeks won 19 of 27 faceoffs and had a game-high 14 ground balls. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Toron Eccleston finished with a goal and two assists for three points on the night, leaving him one point shy of becoming the ninth player in program history to record 100 career points.
  • LR held a 57-37 advantage in shots and a 31-17 edge on shots on goal.
  • The teams only combined for two penalties on the night with Anderson's penalty going against their goalie. 
  • LR improves to 64-29 all-time at home and 51-7 in SAC games.
  • This is the first time this year that an opponent scores first but the Bears win the game.
UP NEXT: The Bears will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Tusculum.
