HICKORY, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne men's tennis continued its recent tear, defeating Coker 6-1 for its 8th straight victory. The Bears are also 6-0 in the SAC, alone in first place in the conference.
In the doubles round,
Rhodri Atkinson and
Josh Lazenby had a rare challenge, needing a tiebreak to win 7-6 at No. 1. Joel Hemming and
Mauricio Hernandez took care of business at No. 2 doubles, winning 6-4. Reigning SAC Player of the Week
Lewis Scott and
Patrik Alvestrand also won 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.
In the singles round, Atkinson dropped just one game at No. 1, winning 6-1, 6-0. Lazenby had a much longer match at No. 2, but was able to scratch out a 6-2, 2-6, 12-10 victory. Scott won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles,
Joel Hemmings won 8-7 at No.4, and
Zachary Cox dominated 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Bears continue a very busy week at home on Thursday when Division I North Carolina A&T comes to Hickory for a 1 p.m. first serve.
