HICKORY, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne men's tennis bounced back from a loss to North Carolina A&T in a big way on Saturday at home, taking down No. 24 Carson-Newman 5-2 in Hickory. The Bears won two out of three doubles matches, and four out of six singles matches to comfortably beat the Eagles and take over first place in the SAC. The Bears are the lone remaining undefeated team in league play in the conference.
Winning today over the Eagles was
Rhodri Atkinson and
Josh Lazenby at No. 1 doubles (6-3), and
Lewis Scott and
Patrik Alvestrand at No. 3 doubles (7-5).
In singles, Atkinson won in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1, and Lazenby won another three-set match 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 2. Scott also won in three at No. 3 singles 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, and
Zachary Cox closed out the win with a dominating 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.
The Bears are 7-0 in SAC play and will put their record on the line again on Tuesday when they travel to Wingate for a 2 p.m. first serve.
