Bears Win 18th in a row with shutout of USC Aiken

HICKORY, N.C. - No. 15 Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball continued its unbelievable run with another shutout, this time 11-0 over non-conference foe USC Aiken in a rainy midweek game between the bricks. Tanner Moyers pitched five shutout innings, Drew Yniesta homered and drove in three runs, and the Bear pitching staff only surrendered five hits. LR extends its single-season winning streak record to 18, and hasn't lost a game in over a month.

STATS AND INFO
  • Yniesta got things rolling early for the Bears, hitting a towering home run to left field in the 1st inning to make it 2-0. It was Yniesta's fourth home run as a Bear. 
  • SAC Player of the Week David Bell added an RBI fielder's choice in the 2nd to extend the lead to 3-0, Wade Cuda knocked Brayden Collett in with an RBI single, and Cole Laskowski added a sacrifice fly to score Cuda and it was 5-0 after two. 
  • The Bears would strike again in the 5th when Anthony Porrino picked up his second sac fly of the week, driving in Yniesta. 
  • Yniesta picked up his third RBI of the day in the 6th with an RBI groundout, and an error for Aiken extended the inning, allowing another run to score. 
  • Bell hit his fourth double in his last four games in the 7th, driving in Porrino to make it 9-0. 
  • Two bases-loaded walks in the late innings drove in two more runs to round out the scoring for LR. 
  • Moyers pitched five shutout innings, allowing just three hits and stirking out seven to earn his second win of the season. 
  • Spencer Floyd pitched the 6th, Joey Cobb pitched the 7th, Henry Cartrett pitched the 8th against his former team, and Roland Thivierage closed out the shutout for the Bears. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • This was the 10th time this season LR has scored more than 10 runs in a game. They are undefeated when scoring 10+ runs the last two seasons. 
  • This was the fourth shutout of the season for the Bears, and the third of this 18-game winning streak. 
  • The Bears have now gone a full month between losses. LR's only loss of the season came on Feb. 7. 
  • Today's win was head coach Chris Ramirez's 255th head coaching win. 
  • LR is now 2-0 all-time against USC Aiken. This was the first meeting between the two schools since 2009. 
UP NEXT: The Bears jump back into conference play when they travel to Tusculum on Friday for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
