Softball Wins Sixth in a Row with Sweep of Limestone

Hickory, N.C.-  The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team won their sixth straight game and have won 17 of their last 18 games with a sweep of visiting Limestone on Tuesday afternoon. In game one, Cassidy Wall went 3-3 with a home run and three RBIs in a 6-1 win. Lora Beth Wood hit her second home run of the season and Morgan Beeler threw a complete-game shutout as the Bears won 2-0 to finish the sweep.

STATS OF GAME ONE:
  • Hannah Jennings, batting second for the first time this season, singled with one out in the 1st then Wall drove her in with her 8th double of the year to give the Bears an early 1-0 lead. 
  • Jennings and Wall then helped the Bears put a five-spot up in the next inning. Jennings had a two-run single then Wall added a two-run home run, her fourth of the year, to give the Bears a 6-0 lead.
  • The Saints got their lone run on a sac fly in the 6th. 
  • Lauren Rakes got the start in the circle, throwing the complete game to pick up her tenth win of the year. Rakes struck out eight while allowing just one run. 
STATS OF GAME TWO:
  • Wall had her fourth hit and fourth RBI of the day that gave the Bears an early 1-0 lead in game two. 
  • Wood added a solo bomb to center to give the Bears a 2-0 lead in the 4th. It was Wood's second of the season.
  • Beeler (7-4) threw her second complete-game shutout of the year. Beeler gave up six hits while striking out eight. 
  • Bears were held to just three hits in the second. Limestone's Caroline Ruth was the only one on either side to have a multi-hit game. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bears are now 14-0 at home this season. 
  • Wall now has an eight-game hitting streak entering today and has hit safely in 16 of her last 17 games.
  • Wall had her second career three-hit game in the first game today. 
  • Savannah Moorefield stole her 50th career stolen base on Saturday and became just the 4th person in program history to steal at least 50 bases. Moorefield stole her 51st base in the second game today.
  • Rakes entered today first in the SAC in ERA, Strikeouts and Saves and 4th in wins. Rakes won her third straight SAC pitcher of the week award today. 
  • Mardigian struck out for the first time in her career today. Mardigian went 67 at-bats this year without a strikeout, which was the best in all of DII entering today. 
  • Moorefield has reached base in all 25 games this year. 
UP NEXT: Bears will travel to Tusculum on Saturday. The first pitch is at 2:00 PM.
