STATS OF GAME ONE:
- The game was a pitching duel as Rakes and Wingate's Sydney Kale combined to allow just five hits and strike out 24 on the day.
- Kale gave up a leadoff single to Moorefield then a two-out double from Mardigian drove her in for the game's only run.
- Mardigian had three of the Bears' four hits as the freshman collected her second three-hit game on the season.
- Rakes picked up win number 18 with her shutout. The shutout was her seventh of the season.
STATS OF GAME TWO:
- Game two was all Bulldogs as Wingate opened up a 14-0 lead after three innings as all nine Bulldogs starters collected hits and eight had RBIs.
- LR's only highlight was a four-run fourth where Mardigian, Rakes and Lora Beth Wood all hit home runs but the Bears could not get any closer than 14-4 as Wingate finished the game after five innings via the mercy rule.
- Beeler took the loss in the circle to fall to 15-8. Beeler gave up eight runs (3 earned) in 4.0 innings. Brooklin Heavner came in relief but failed to record an out while giving up seven runs (0 earned). The 12 unearned runs are the most on the season as the Bears committed three errors in the contest.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- On this date in LR history, the Bears defeated Wingate 2-0 in eight innings to advance to the 2013 SAC Conference Tournament in the Finals.
- Moorefield had two hits today and is nine hits away from becoming the all-time hit leader in Bears history.
- Kylee Leonhardt's next double is career double number 50. Only 7th players have ever hit 50 doubles in a career.
- Bears pitching staff is just three strikeouts shy of 400 on the season, which would be the 4th team to hit that mark.
- The split keeps the Bears in second place in the SAC with two games on Saturday. Bears will need a Carson-Newman sweep of Anderson tomorrow and then their own sweep of the Eagles on Saturday to claim a share of the regular-season title.
UP NEXT: Bears will conclude their regular season with a doubleheader against Carson-Newman on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
