Smith Joins 100-Point Club in Bears Loss to No. 23 Limestone

Gaffney, S.C.-- With her goal in the second quarter, Suzy Smith became the 11th player in program history to join the 100-point club. Smith added her 75th career goal in the fourth period but the Bears fell 15-11 to No. 23 Limestone on Wednesday evening. Ellie Campbell added three goals and Alexa Burghardt added a pair of goals in the loss.

STATS OF THE GAME
  • Bears got their lone goal in the first quarter by Campbell to tie it at one but Limestone scored the final three of the quarter to take a 4-1 lead into the second. 
  • Jolan Morey and Campbell got the Bears the first two goals of the second quarter to cut the Saints lead to 4-3.
  • However, that would be the closest the Bears would get as the Saints would score five of the next seven to take a 9-5 lead into halftime. 
  • Saints out shot the Bears 19-8 in the first half and had six caused turnovers in the half.
  • Makenna Filley got the Bears going with the first goal of the second half but that was the only goal for the Bears in the period as the Saints pushed their lead to a game-high seven. 
  • Campbell, Burghardt (2), Kaitlyn Cavanaugh and Smith added goals for the Bears in the 4th quarter but LR could not get any closer then the four-goal final score. 
  • Teanna Sieben had ten saves for the Bears in goal, her 8th games with at least 10 saves. 
  • Filley added two caused turnovers to go with her goal on the evening. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Smith has 75 career goals and 26 career assists for her 101 points as a Bear. 
  • Bears fall to 0-9 all-time against the Saints. 
  • LR also drops to 0-3 this season against ranked teams. 
  • Campbell's goal was her 20th of the season. 
  • Sieben entered the game second in the SAC in saves with 134. 
  • Sieben also moves up to 4th in program history for most saves in the season.
  • It was the Bears first 7:00 PM game since the 2019 season.
