HICKORY, N.C. -- The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team traveled to UNC Pembroke to play in four games this weekend. The Bears earned a split after dropping both matches on Friday, LR bounced back to earn a pair of 3-0 victories on Saturday.Â
Game One
Lenoir-Rhyne fell to Embry Riddle (5-1) by a final score of 3-1 in the opener. LR dropped the first set 25-21, but rallied to take set two 27-25. Embry-Riddle would earn wins in set three (25-19) and set four (25-20) to clinch. Individually,
Ashley Hawkins set a career-high with 18 kills and added 14 digs for a double-double. Freshman
Emmaleigh Allen recorded a double-double of her own with 14 kills and 15 digs while
Mackenzie Hulsey handed out 41 assists to go with a team-high 22 digs.Â
Game Two
The Bears would fall to host UNC Pembroke 3-1. In this one, LR came out hot and took the first set 25-21 but the Braves (2-4) would come back to win the final three by scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-23. Once again the duo of Hawkins (11 kills) and Allen (14 kills) led the way as the duo each recorded double-doubles once again.
Bailey Carpenter paced the Bears with 22 digs and
Rachel Wildermuth handed out 24 assists. Pembroke had five players in double figures in digs and four had at least 10 kills.
Game Three
Day two started early for LR who took on Felician (0-6) at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The early start didn't slow LR who cruised past Felician by counts of 25-12, 25-11 and 25-23. Hawkins and Allen combined for 23 kills and
Braelyn Faust had eight kills and a sparkling .538 hitting percentage. Eight different players had a kill in the match and Carpenter would add 19 digs. LR hit .337 in the match, the second-best percentage in a game on the young season.Â
Game Four
LR would close the weekend with another convincing 3-0 victory, this time over East Stroudsburg (3-5).
Colette Romp was the leader for the Bears in the finale, totaling 13 kills on 23 attempts and a .435 hitting percentage.
Rachel Wildermuth had 18 assists and 10 digs and added a pair of service aces in the contest.Â
With the weekend, LR moves to 4-3 on the season with all seven of those contests coming outside of Hickory. The Bears will finally open their home slate on Tuesday night when North Greenville comes to town for a 6 p.m. first serve. LR will put its 12 match home winning streak on the line against the Crusaders.
