Hickory, N.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Swimming Team celebrated their seniors on Saturday afternoon inside Shuford Pool. The women's team defeated the Tornados 156.50 to 96.50 and the men's team squeaked out a 118-115 victory after the Bears won the 400 Medley Relay in the last heat to come away with the victory.Â
On the Women's side, senior
Lisa Boernigen lead the way with two golds. Boerngien got the win in the 50 free with a time of 24.95 then capped off her afternoon with a five second win in the 100 IM. Bears also won the 200 free event as
Ella Penny continues her strong season with a narrow victory over King's Cassie Lowe. Penny touched the wall in just under two minutes with a time of 1:59.95.
Kayana Taylor won the 100 free with a time of 55.26 as the Bears won four of the five freestyle heats.Â
Taylor also took home the gold in the 50 fly as she edged teammate
Elizabeth Bowman by one second but Bowman got her victory later as she had an impressive swim in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.89,Â
Both relay teams came away with victories. First in the 400 medley relay the team of Boernigen, Bowman, Penny and Taylor had a nine-second win as they finished with a time of 4:06.45 then they teamed up later in the night for an eight second victory in the 400 free relay.Â
On the Men's side, the Bears needed a victory in the 400 free relay to pull out a victory on Senior Day. The team of
Christopher Glebus,
Micah McRea,
Nathan McCormick and
Cooper Sledge won with a time of 3:17.75 to help the Bears edge King 118-115. The three point victory was the closest win for the Bears in a dual meet in program history.Â
McRea had three big wins in the 50 breast (25.78), the 100 free (48.10) and the 100 IM (51.82) to help the Bears as well. Glebus took home the 1000 free with a 10:24.03 time then Glebus and Sledge slapped the wall at the same time in the 50 fly as both had a time of 25.21. Senior Nathan McCromick got a win on his Senior Day as well with a close victory in the 50 yard back (25.28).
The Women's team will travel to UNC-Pembroke for a tri-meet next Sunday and the Men's team will now start their preparation for the SAC Championship on February 8th. Â
