No. 3 Bears Dispatch of Crusaders 17-6

TIGERVILLE, S.C.-- The No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne men's lacrosse team scored the first seven goals of the game and never looked back in a 17-6 blowout victory over North Greenville on Saturday afternoon. This is the 31st consecutive win over an unranked opponent for the Bears in their 2023 road debut.

STATS OF THE GAME
  • Myles Moffat kicked off the scoring just 1:22 into the contest as Moffat would eventually net a hat trick in the first quarter. Moffat scored three of the Bears four first quarter goals with Tommy Aguilar netting the other tally. 
  • Toron Eccleston, Riley Seay and Will Canata scored the next three goals as the Bears went on a 7-0 run to open the scoring. 
  • NGU didn't find the back of the goal until the 6:17 mark of the second quarter and a Bryce Reece goal with 2:59 left would send LR into the break with a 10-2 advantage. 
  • Eccleston, Reece and Canata scored the first three goals of the second half as the LR lead would swell to 13-2. 
  • David Bell and Ayden Mowry closed out the scoring to make it a second consecutive double-digit win for the Bears. 
  • Moffat finished with four goals and an assist and Canata had three goals. Eccleston and Reece each had two goals and an assist. 
  • Matthew Mancini won 7-of-13 faceoffs and grabbed a game-high eight ground balls for LR. John Paulus went 7-of-12 in faceoffs. 
  • Nolan Hoffman moved to 2-0 in net with six saves on the afternoon. 
  • The Bears doubled up the hosts in shots at 42-21 with the Bears putting 29 on goal compared to 12 by the Crusaders.
  • LR took a 29-20 edge in ground balls and held North Greenville to just 1-of-5 with the extra man. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • The Bears are now 3-0 in program history against North Greenville.
  • The game featured brothers Myles and Hayden (NGU) Moffat squaring off. 
  • Current Crusader assistant coach Jay Goldsmith is ninth in LR program history in goals scored. 
  • The Bears last loss to an unranked program came back on March 2, 2019 when they fell 12-10 to Florida Tech. 
  • The first two opponents for LR this season have combined for just 10 goals and have just 25 shots on goal.
  • The Bears were held 0-1 on the man advantage and are now 6-7 on the season with the extra man after setting a program record with six man-up goals against Maryville.
  • 13 different players have scored a goal for LR in the first two games. 
UP NEXT: LR will return to action next Sunday with a neutral site contest with defending National Champion and No. 1 Tampa in Savannah, Ga. Face off is set for noon.
