Women's Lacrosse Drops Home Game Against Lee

HICKORY, N.C. -- The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team dropped a 15-6 contest at Moretz Stadium against Lee on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon. Lee scored 10 of the game's final 11 goals to grab the road win.

STATS OF THE GAME
  • Jolan Morey got the Bears on the board less then 90 seconds into the game to grab an early 1-0 lead. 
  • After three total goals in the first four minutes of action the defenses settled in and only three more goals were scored the rest of the first quarter including a scoreless last 4:56 of the quarter as the teams head into the second quarter tied at three. 
  • Kaitlyn Cavanaugh broke the 3-3 tie with her first goal of the day at the 7:29 mark of the second quarter. 
  • The Flames grabbed momentum as Lee scored four of the last five goals of the half, including two within the last 24 seconds, to take a two-goal advantage into the locker room. 
  • Morey scored her second goal of the game with 6:43 left in the third quarter. However, that was the only goal of the second half for the Bears as Lee outscored the Bears 8-1 in the second half. Lee's Megan Trout had all four of her goals in the second half for the Flames.  
  • Nine Bears caused a turnover today as Cavanaugh, Caitlyn Race, Rianna Keough and Liz Black each had a pair to lead the Bears. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • These two teams meet for the first time ever exactly a year ago today as the Bears came away with a 8-7 win in Cleveland.
  • This is the first of two straight against Gulf South conference teams. The Bears will face Montevallo next Sunday. 
  • Sally Friesen, a freshman from Calgary, Alberta ,Canada, recorded her first career save in goal for the Bears. Friesen made four saves in relief of Teanna Sieben. 
  • Cavanaigh had two assists today to go along with her two goals as the junior has three goals and three assists through two games. 
UP NEXT: The Bears will host Montevallo on Sunday February 19th at 1:00 PM.
