Bears Defeat Limestone to Snap Losing Streak Against Saints

Gaffney, S.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball team defeated Limestone 74-61 on Wednesday evening. The victory snaps an eight game losing streak to the Saints. Tonight was the first time the Bears have defeated Limestone since the Saints moved to the SAC in 2020. Mikeba Jones led the Bears with 22 points while Blaikley Crooks added 17 as the Bears end their five game road trip and will return to the Shu on Saturday.

STATS AND INFO:

  • The victory was Head Coach Grahm Smith's 50th career win at LR. 
  • Smith is just the sixth coach to win 50 games in program history. 
  • This was the first win in Gaffney since 1998.
  • Crooks is now 21 points away from 1,000 in her career. 
  • Harman moved to 8th all-time in assists with five more tonight. Harman now has 326 career assists. 
  • The two teams will meet again in the annual Play4Kay game one month from today in Hickory. 

FIRST HALF:

  • Both teams shot over 50% from the floor in the first quarter as LR raced out to a 21-16 lead after ten minutes. 
  • A three-point play by Jones with 5:52 left in the first half gave the Bears their biggest lead at 34-22. 
  • After the Saints cut the lead to five, the Bears scored eight of the last ten points to take a 44-33 lead into half. 

SECOND HALF:

  • Bears shot 70% in the third quarter as LR grew their lead to 18 after three quarter. 
  • LR's lead grew to 20 points but Limestone made a run. However, the Saints could not cut the lead into single digits.
  • Bears defense held Limestone to 4-15 from long range as the Saints made just 2 of their first 11 three pointers. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Bears shot a season high 58.3% from the field. Its the second time this season the Bears shot over 50%. 
  • Jones hit 9 of 10 shots for a season high 22 points in just 21 minutes of action. 
  • Crooks added 17 points as Crooks and Jones each added a team high six rebounds as well. 
  • Emily Harman had 8 points, five assists and five rebounds on the night. 

UP NEXT: LR will return home to face UVA-Wise on Saturday. Tip-off from Shuford Arena is at 2:00 PM.
