Men's Soccer falls 1-0 in rain-soaked match vs #4 Limestone

HICKORY, N.C.-- After over a two-hour delay due to rain and lightning, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team fell to #4 Limestone 1-0 on Saturday night. The Saints got the lone goal in the 58th minute as the Bears fall to 4-5 in the SAC with the loss. LR is in a tied for 5th in the SAC with two conference games remaining.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • The game was a scoreless tie with plenty of action up and down the field early on until weather conditions in the 17th minute delayed the game for over two hours. 
  • When the teams returned the action the rest of the first have only saw a total of eight shots with only one Bears shot on goal and none for the Saints. 
  • The unbeaten Saints broke through in the 58th minute with a goal from Johan Morel. 
  • Bears had four shots on goal in the second half but could not find the back of the net to tie the game. 
  • Limestone played a man down for the final five minutes after a red card was issued in the 85th minute.
  • Cathal Carney made all six of his saves in the second half. 
  • There were 11 yellow cards in the match and two reds. 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Saints have won their last eight games against the Bears.
  • Seven of the cards were given out in the final five minutes. 
  • Bears are tied for 5th in the SAC with Catawba and Anderson with 12 points. 
  • LR is only two points behind Mars Hill for 4th as the top four seeds will host a SAC Quarterfinal game on November 9th. 
UP NEXT:  Bears will step out of conference play with a midweek game against Francis Marion on Wednesday. The Patriots entered Saturday with a 6-4-5 record and will be making their first trip to Hickory since 2016.
