Bears sweep season series against Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Bears continued their strong season on Tuesday, taking down Newberry 3-0 to sweep the season series. Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 15-1 (6-1 SAC) on the season and becomes the first team in the conference to reach 15 wins. Kayli Cleaver and Averie Dale combined for 20 kills while Sydney Karjala led the team in assists (19).

  • Lenoir-Rhyne came out firing on all cylinders with 11 kills on 35 total attacks in the first set.
  • Newberry scored the opening point of the second set for the only lead change as Lenoir-Rhyne prevailed in a 25-19 set victory.
  • The Bears registered a set-low .200 hitting percentage in set three but were still able to complete the sweep, winning the set 25-20.
  • Kayli Cleaver led the team with 12 kills, followed by Averie Dale with eight.
  • Sydney Karjala led the team with assists (19), just ahead of Rachel Wildermuth (16).
  • Averie Dale led the team with four blocks.
  • Jenna Vogen and Brooke Aeschilman combined for 20 digs.

  • Lenoir-Rhyne has won the last seven matches against the Wolves and improved their record to 17-13 in Newberry.
