Late Run Lifts Bears Past Coker

Hickory, N.C.-- A 12-0 run to open the 4th quarter lifts the Bears over visiting Coker 60-50 on Wednesday inside the Shu. Including the final 1:58 of the third quarter, the Bears went on a 16-0 run to open a double digit lead. Mikeba Jones had 18 points to lead the Bears, including 11 points in the decisive 4th quarter. Blaikley Crooks added 13 points while Tilda Lindstrom had 10 points as the Bears remain perfect at home in SAC play with one home game left in the regular season.

STATS AND INFO:

  • Bears have won four straight against Coker after tonight's win. 
  • The win moves to the Bears to 19 wins and is one shy of back to back twenty wins season for the first time since the 09' and 10' seasons. 
  • 14 SAC wins is the second most ever in a single season for the Bears. 
  • The 2013-2014 team went 17-5 in Conference play.
  • Emily Harman and Blaikley Crooks played in their 100th career game today.

FIRST HALF:

  • Coker scored ten of the first fifteen points to open the game while the Bears scored ten of the quarter's last fifteen to tie it after the first ten minutes. 
  • A Jalen Gathers layup with 6:59 to go in the first half gave the Bears their biggest lead at 23-17 in the first half. 
  • However, the Bears went scoreless the last 5:12 of the half as Coker took a 27-25 lead in halftime. 
  • Crooks led the Bears with 7 points in the first half as LR was held to just 25 points. 

SECOND HALF:

  • With Coker up five points with 1:52 left in the third quarter, Gathers and Jones finished the quarter with baskets to cut the lead to 41-40.
  • The 4th quarter was all Jones as she scored 11 of the Bears 20 points of the quarter and 9 of the Bears first twelve points during their 12-0 run to open the quarter. 
  • With the last four points in the third quarter, the Bears run was 16-0 as LR opened 11 point lead 6:01 to play.
  • Coker cut the lead to eight points but could not get any closer as LR remains perfect at home in SAC play. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Coker out rebounded the Bears 44-27 in the game including 14 on the offensive side. 
  • 12 different Bears played at least five minutes tonight. 
  • Bears forced Coker into 26 turnovers night which lead to 32 points for LR. 
  • Coker had five players scored between 7 and 11 points with Dasia Ferguson leading them with 11 points.
