Bears Battle Back to Upset #24 Anderson

Hickory, N.C.-- The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball team came back from a ten point halftime deficit to battle back and upset the #24 ranked Trojans 77-67 in the Shu on Wednesday afternoon.  Emily Harman had a season high 24 points while Blaikley Crooks added 22 points as the duo combined for 30 second half points to lead the Bears to victory. The win keeps the Bears in sole possession of second place in the SAC, one game behind Catawba.

STATS AND INFO:

  • Bears have now wn four straight games against Anderson inside the Shu. 
  • The team split the season series as Anderson had a second half comeback of their own just two weeks ago. 
  • Anderson came into the game ranked #24 in this week's D2CSC Media Poll.
  • The Bears are now 2-1 against ranked teams this season.
  • LR has won seven straight home games this season and remain unbeaten in conference play at home. 
  • Harman's career high came against Anderson during the 2021-22 season when she dropped 39 points in victory. 

FIRST HALF:

  • After a back and forth first quarter, the Trojans used a 10-0 run late in the first quarter to take a 23-14 lead after ten minutes. 
  • The Trojans shot 50% in both quarters in the first half as Anderson extended their lead at halftime to 39-29.
  • Harman, Crooks and Mikeba Jones each had 8 points in the first half while Diamond McDowell had 14 points and seven rebounds in the first twenty minutes. 

SECOND HALF:

  • Bears scored 48 of their 77 points in the second half including outscoring the Trojans 25-12 in the third quarter. 
  • The Bears did not regain the lead until Jayda Glass hit a jumper with 29 seconds left in the third then Jones hit a layup with two seconds left to give the Bears a 54-51 lead into the final frame. 
  • Anderson took the lead back after a layup with 7:15 lead left but the Bears went on a 7-0 run right after to take control of the game as Anderson cut it down to two points at 65-63 but Crooks and Harman hit back to back baskets to put the game away. 

BEYOND THE BOX SORE:

  • Mikeba Jones had her third double-double of the season with 16 points and eleven rebounds. 
  • Bears did had a season low seven assists on the night as only three Bears had dimes today. 
  • LR went 12 from 14 from the line as Harman, Crooks and Tilda Lindstrom all went perfect from the charity stripe. 
  • McDowell finished with 17 points and added twelve rebounds, five steals and four blocks while playing all forty minutes but the Bears held Mcdowell to just three second half points. 

UP NEXT: Bears will make the trip to Carson-Newman on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is schedule for 2:00 PM from Jefferson City.
