Rakes' No-Hitter Highlights Bears Sweep; Win Streak Hits 13

Hickory, N.C.-- For the third time in her career, Lauren Rakes threw a no-hitter and the Bears scored 10 runs in the first two innings, including a three-run home run from Lora Beth Wood, to beat Coker 10-0. In the night cap, Wood hits her second homer of the day to walk off Coker 10-1 as the Bears have now won 13 in a row. Head Coach Shena Hollar moves two games away from the 1,000 career win mark.

  • Hollar's 998 all-time wins pull her within striking distance of 1,000 for her career. Hollar would become the eighth active coach in NCAA Division II with 1,000 career wins.
  • Bears have won eight in a row against the Cobras. 
  • Coker has only second two runs in the last six games against the Bears. 
  • The last four head-to-head games have only gone five innings. 
GAME ONE INFO:
  • Story of the game was Rakes as she did not allow a single hit and just walked two hitters. Rakes stuck out five hitters while picking up her 9th win of the season.
  • Bears gave Rakes tons of run support as the Bears scored ten runs in the first two innings including a six spot in the second inning. 
  • Wood's first three-run blast of the day highlighted a four-run first.  
GAME TWO INFO:
  • After getting no hits in the first game, the Cobras got three first innings hits including their lone run of the game.
  • Bears responded with two runs in the bottom of the first then solo runs in the second and third innings. 
  • The Bears then ended the game with two long blasts as Brown hit a two-run home run then Wood ended the game with her second three-run blast of the day. 
  • Madison Wilson threw the complete game picking up her seventh win of the season as she gave up just one run while striking out five.  
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Rakes' no-hitter was her third no-hitter in her career, Rakes no-hit Tusculum in SAC Quarterfinals in 2022 and then opened last year with no-hitter against King.
  • It was the program's 23rd no-hitter.
  • The last one before today was Morgan Beeler's no-hitter against Wingate 368 days ago. 
  • Mardigian extended her hitting streak to eight games with hits in both games today. Mardigian went 5-6 on the day. 
  • Lani Warren had three hits in game one but saw her 14 game on base streak snapped in the night cap. 
  • Rakes is three strikeout shy of 700 career strikeouts.  Rakes will be the 4th player in program history to reach that mark. 
  • Wood had seven RBIs on the day.
