Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 32 Men's Tennis Defeats UVA-Wise, 5-2

HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team earned its third-straight home victory with a 5-2 win over UVA-Wise.

In doubles, the Bears found themselves in an early hole as the Cavaliers took the No. 2 line with a 6-1 victory.

However, LR fought right back into the mix as Nevio Dux and Connor Donley prevailed at the No. 3 line with a 6-3 victory. Coming down to the No. 1 spot, Vadym Rogynskyi and Rufus Plane sealed the first point of the match for LR with a tight 6-4 result.

After giving the Bears the 1-0 advantage, Rogynskyi carried the momentum right into singles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the No. 3 line. Out of his five matches in that spot of the order, the sophomore has won four of them.

With the Cavaliers drawing a point back with the win at No. 1 singles, it was Raphael Champaud who was able to draw back a two-point lead for the Bears in his straight-set win. The sophomore picked up his fifth victory of the season with a 6-3, 6-3 result.

As LR was on the verge of another victory, Dux helped carry the Bears across the finish line with a 6-1, 7-5 victory. The junior has now won three-straight matches, all coming from the No. 2 spot in the lineup.

While the match was already in the books, the Bears secured an additional victory as Plane got the job in two sets with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) outcome. The sophomore improves to a 4-1 record at the No. 4 line in the order.

UP NEXT: The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team will continue its five-match home stand with a contest against Newberry on Wednesday, March 20. The match is scheduled to be played at 2 p.m. from the YMCA of Catawba Valley.
