Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 32 Men’s Tennis Falls Short to No. 45 Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team had a comeback bid that fell just short to the Catawba Indians in a 4-3 outcome.

At the beginning of the match, the Indians had a strong start by taking the first point of the day with a pair of 6-1 victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Although the Bears could not collect the point, the No. 2 duo of Zachary Cox and Mattias Selde were able to win the final doubles match, 6-4. It is the pair's sixth win of the season with all of them coming at the No. 2 spot.

As the match transitioned to singles, Catawba quickly took care of business by winning the first three matches and secured the critical fourth point. Each singles victory for the Indians came in straight sets.

Even though the match had been determined, LR was able to rally off victories to produce a positive light on the afternoon.

The first singles victory for the Bears came at the No. 3 line with a straight-set result by Vadym Rogynskyi. The sophomore from Ukraine recorded his 11th consecutive win of the season in a 6-4, 6-2 result.

Rufus Plane gained another straight set win for LR as the sophomore tallied a 6-2, 6-3 result at the No. 4 spot. The Cardiff, Wales native also has been on a roll with nine-straight victories for the Bears.

In the final match of the day, Raphael Champaud played a pro-set style match at No. 6 singles. The sophomore from Chandolas, France won his second-straight match and ninth win of the season in an 8-4 result.

UP NEXT: The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team will conclude its road schedule with a showdown against the No. 24 Wingate Bulldogs. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, April 10 at 2 p.m. from Wingate, N.C.
