Bears take down Anderson to remain undefeated

ANDERSON, SC - The Lenoir-Rhyne Bears faced their toughest test of the season on Tuesday, heading to Anderson to take on last year's NCAA quarterfinalists. In what was a back-and-forth battle, the Bears came out on top 3-2, winning their second consecutive five-set match. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • The Bears used a big 7-2 run late in the first set to take a 22-17 lead.
  • Averie Dale and Kayli Cleaver used big kills to close out the opening set.
  • Despite an early lead, the Bears found themselves down 19-18 to the Trojans in set two.
  • A Kathy Peter kills ignited a 7-4 run for the Bears, closing out the set.
  • Anderson took advantage of Lenoir-Rhyne errors to take sets three and four.
  • The Bears started off hot in set five, quickly going up 7-3.
  • Brooke Aeschliman notched an ace to put LR up 10-4.
  • A Jenna Vogen kill and a bad set from AU gave the Bears the win.
  • Kathy Peter led with eight kills, while Jenna Vogen, Kylie Redfern, and Averie Dale had seven.
  • Rachel Wildermuth led with 20 assists, while Vogen notched 13.
  • Averie Dale set a career-high with eight blocks.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • This was just the second five-set match of Lenoir-Rhyne's season.
  • Averie Dale has won two SAC Defensive Player of the Week awards this season.
  • The Bears have won five of the last six vs. the Trojans.
  • LR won despite having their lowest hitting percentage (.108) of the season.
UP NEXT: The Bears will travel to Augusta, Georgia, this weekend to take on Flagler and (RV) Augusta. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
