TOCCOA, GA - The Lenoir-Rhyne women's golf team put together one of their most impressive showings in recent memory on Tuesday, as they shot an incredible 287 (-1) in the second round of the Ralph Hayes Toyota D2 Elite Invitational to jump from 12th to 3rd. The Bears, who went 308-287 (595, +19), were the only team to go under par in the second round and were the best on the day by nine strokes.
Winning the tournament was No. 3 Anderson, who went 287-296 (583, +7). The No. 39 ranked Bears took down 11 ranked teams, including No. 1 Wingate, No. 6 UT Tyler, and No. 7 Lee.
Posting top-five finishes for the Bears were
Danielle Bekker (T2) and
Jaya Wilkinson (T5). Bekker went 76-68 to finish with an even par score of 144, tying her with No. 11 Amely Bochaton and No. 13 Olivia Roberts for second. Wilkinson also shot under par in her second round, going 75-70 to tie for fifth with a 145 (+1). Bekker's 68 was the lowest score of the tournament while Wilkinson's 70 was tied for the second lowest.
Tying for 38th was
Eve Neild, going 76-77 over the two rounds to finish with a 153 (+9). Joining her at 38th was
Charlotte Colley, who came through with a big even par 72 in her second round to help the team jump up nine spots on day two. Rounding things out for the Bears was
Emily Gilmour, who took 83rd with a 167 (+23).
INDIVIDUAL SCORES
This was the Bears' last tournament of the Fall semester. After a 14th place finish to open the season, they posted three top-ten finishes, highlighted by this week's third place showing. Lenoir-Rhyne won't compete again until they take part in the Battle of Hilton Head on Feb 16-17 in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
