Two second half goals propel Bears to senior day victory

HICKORY, N.C. - Down 1-0 at the break, head coach Carlos Rubio and his resilient Bears squad never gave up, getting two goals in a 12-minute span to propel them to a big 2-1 victory. 

This game doubled as senior day for the Bears, who honored their 17 graduates.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • It was a defensive battle in the opening half as the teams combined for just four shots.
  • Tusclum went up 1-0 in the 41st minute tahnks to a Filippo Canaletich goal.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne tied things up in the 61st minute thanks to a Jonas Moos penalty kick goal.
  • Raul Canas picked up his third goal of the season in the 72nd minute off the double assist from Fran Tita and David Grifell
  • The teams were even on the day, both having 12 shots with five on goal.
  • There were 11 cards given on the day, 10 yellow and one red. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This was Lenoir-Rhyne's 350th win as a men's soccer program.
  • The Bears are now 16-17-5 all-time vs. the Pioneers, winning the last four. 
  • Lenoir-Rhyne is 5-0-3 since their loss at Emory & Henry on September 24th. 
UP NEXT: With the win the Bears have secured a home SAC quarterfinal game next weekend (date and time TBD). They close out the regular season on Wednesday at Catawba. The Catawba Indians are 5-6-3 (1-5-3 SAC) and fell 2-0 to Newberry earlier tonight.
