Brown's near triple-double highlights Lenoir-Rhyne's 79-61 win over Lander

HICKORY, N.C. - Abigail Brown was on triple-double watch in her second career game as a Bear, finishing with a game high 22 points while adding nine rebounds and eight blocks in the Bears 79-61 win over Lander.

Brown's eight blocks ties the school record set by Shea Blacknell back in 2002.

STORY OF THE GAME:
  • The Bears failed to match yesterday's 21-0 run in the first quarter but did have a 14-0 run in the middle of the opening frame to take a 20-7 lead after ten minutes. 
  • Lander regrouped after the first quarter as the teams played even in the second, putting the Bears up 38-25 at the break.
  • Abigail Brown led the Bears with 13 first half points on 5-8 shooting.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne opened the second half shooting 62% from the floor in the third quarter and hitting four threes, all of which came Elyseia Brown and Amiya Porter
  • Lander could not cut into the Bears lead or make a last run as the Bears cruised to a 79-61 win. 
STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Abigail Brown had eight of the Bears' nine blocks. 
  • Brown had nine rebounds to lead the Bears as the they narrowly won the battle on the glass 38-37.
  • Elyseia Brown was in double digits for the second straight game, finishing with 14 points on 4-9 from the floor.
  • Madilyn Winterton was the third Bear in double digits with 10 points.
  • LR forced the Bearcats into 25 turnovers as Sarah Burton and Amiya Porter each had three steals. 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • Bears have won back to back games against the Bearcats.
  • LR holds the all-time series lead 8-6 after today's victory.
  • The Bears trailed for just :35 seconds in the contest. 
  • USC-AIken rebounded to defeated Carson-Newman earlier in the first game of the day. 
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne will open a four game road trip on Wednesday with a trip to Francis Marion. The Patriots went 1-1 this past weekend with a 76-69 lost to #8 Coker but rebounded for a 62-56 win against Wingate. Tip-off from Florence is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
